2 Posts In 1: Writing & Trying To Find Charity Work! (NJ) “DAYS 351 & 352” – 6/20/11, 6/21/11

June 22, 2011 - 2:00 pm - (NJ) “DAYS 351 & 352” - Week 51 - State 48

Before I start this post let me start by saying that I will be writing two days in one.  That’s because my Monday and Tuesday were identical as all I did was write, work on my new plan, do laundry, and stuff like that.

Last night before I went to sleep I started to think about how I was gonna end this trip. (If you’ve been following all year long, you’d know that I only spent a week total between the two states of Rhode Island and Connecticut.)  So, since I did that, I now have a week unaccounted for.

What I mean is, here I am in NJ and there is still two weeks left to complete a year of traveling, writing, and everything else I have done.  So, since one of my regrets is not doing as much charity work as I would have liked to, that’s my plan for this week.

The New Plan
When I got up today in NJ, I immediately hit the computer in order to try and find charity work for me to do in four different states (Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey).

Now, as I’ve found out over the course of this year, finding volunteer work to do within a weeks notice isn’t as easy as you would think it is.  I thought it would be really simple... find a place, go there, and then work.  But that’s not the case as I have found out.  It’s a lot more work to find a place to volunteer, than the volunteering itself.  And that’s the truth!

So, after a few hours of making phone calls and sending emails, I had two places lined up for this week. (I found a place in Bristol, CT and a place in NYC.)  The problem... I tried 5 places in Rhode Island and nothing came of it.  Ahhh!  This is so frustrating! (I choose Bristol, CT so I could visit ESPN's headquarters afterwards.) 🙂

The Rest Of My Day
After working on finding charity work for most of the afternoon, the rest of my day was just writing my posts, doing some laundry, and eating whatever food I could find in my Mom’s place. (I’m still almost dead broke so going out isn’t really an option anyway.) 😉

The only thing different about Tuesday as compared to Monday is I went and picked up my dog Max for the day.  Hey, what can I say, I miss my dog.  By the way, my dog is one of the coolest dogs in the world.  It’s not because I trained him well or anything like that, I just got to lucky to get a real chill dog.  You go Max Daddy!

Finding Charity Work Again
Since yesterday I couldn’t find charity work in Rhode Island, I made it my mission today to try and find a place in that state where I could help out.  So, I called a few more organizations and tried one of the places I called yesterday who didn’t tell me no.

I’m glad I recalled this place because I finally got somebody on the phone that wanted to help me, help out.  So, after talking with the nice lady for a little while, she said she’d call me back and let me know it she could make it happen for me. (It turns out good but she never called me back today.)

The Rest Of My Day
Again, just as I did yesterday, all I did for the rest of my day was write and eat whatever I could find in my Mom’s place.  And, as I already mentioned, I got to hang out with my dog so that was good enough for me.  There’s a reason dogs are called man’s best friend. 😉

My Plan For Tomorrow
At this point in the evening, I still only have 2 states worth of charity work lined up. (Rhode Island still didn’t come though and no place in NJ called me back yet either, but I’m not worried about NJ, something will turn up.)

Anyway, since I don’t want to do nothing again tomorrow, I’m definitely off to somewhere even if I don’t have it planned out yet.  So, currently my plan is to drive to Bristol. CT and do charity work there in the morning and see what happens after that.  That’s all for now.

Thanks for reading!

It’s time to recap the year. I know I learned many things about states and places that I’ll never get to visit. Thanks.
