2 Posts In 1: Organizing My Life & Pulling Out My Back! (FL) “DAYS 235 & 236” – 2/25/11, 2/26/11

February 27, 2011 - 2:15 am - (FL) “DAY 235” - Week 34 - State 32

I gotta tell ya, it was a great feeling waking up in Pat’s place this morning in sunny South Florida.  I already feel like I’m back at home and at the same time on vacation from my trip. (I lived here in Fort Myers for two years as Pat’s roommate three years ago.)

Anyway, since I was finally in a real comfortable place to stay, I took today to get everything out of my car and organize all my things. (I haven’t done this yet in this trip to this extent.)

Organizing Everything

This morning after Pat went to work, I started to organize my life.  The first thing I did was get all my dirty cloths together so I can do laundry.  Then, I sifted through everything I had and found all the t-shirts, bobbleheads, etc... I got at all the sporting events I’ve been to.  I did this so I can send them back home to NJ. (I’m making room in my bags and car.)

Now, since the cold weather is behind me from here on out, I also got all my winter stuff together to send back home as well.  Now, that I had all my things in front of me, I realized I needed laundry detergent as well as food for the week, so I went to the grocery store to get everything I wanted.

Running A Bunch Of Errands

Once I decided to leave Pat’s to go to the grocery store, I figured I’d do everything I had to do errand wise.  The first thing was go to the post office to mail back all the memorabilia I’ve collected over the past few months.  Thanks Glenn!

After that, I went to Target to get food and laundry detergent for the week.  While I was there, I met April who was working in the Deli.  She was a real cool girl as we talked about my journey while I bought some sandwich meat.  Nice meeting you April! 🙂

Stopping By Pat’s Office
As I was driving around Fort Myers, Pat called me to see what I was doing and when I told him where I was, he said I was only a few miles from his new office.  So, after getting directions, I headed over there to say hi and see the new office.

I got there a few minutes later and when I arrived, Pat was doing some work. (He sells insurance now.)  As I was waiting around for him to get done with his business call, I met his friend Julie who had stopped by the office so Pat could print out some paperwork she needed for something (I didn’t ask).

Anyway, after shooting the shit with Silver-time for awhile, I left the office so I could get the Rooster mobile a much needed oil change.  But, before I left, I told Pat not to worry about dinner because I had bought some food to make us later.

Getting An Oil Change
It was now a little after 4 pm and I still haven’t done any laundry let but at least I was still getting stuff done I had to take care off.  Next on that list was an oil change.  After searching around town for the best deal, I found one for $7.85.

Well, it was actually $17.85 but with the $10 rebate you got, it was only $7.85. (The rebate isn’t any good for me because you have to redeem it at this location which I won’t be anywhere near by the time the rebate arrives back in the mail.)

None-the-less, it was a $20 oil change and that's the right price anyway.  Also, while I was there I had these mechanics listen to my engine to tell me if they heard something wrong but they too said my car sounded fine.  I guess I’m hearing things or it’s so minor only I can tell because I drive my car so much.

Back To Pat’s
After getting my oil changed, I went back to Pat’s to do my laundry, clean the inside of my car, and make us dinner.  It was multi-task time! 😉  As I was doing everything I wanted to do, Pat got back home from work (5:30 pm-ish).

Around 8 pm is when I finally finished making dinner for us, so as we ate I continued to getting all my stuff organized.  It was close to 9 pm when I finally had a minute to myself and settled down to relax for the evening.  Ahhh... Nice! 🙂

Giving Pat A Present

Although I’ve never be able to repay Pat for everything he has done for me over the years, I still do what I can.  So, as I’ve been traveling the country, I’ve accumulated a few presents for him over the past 235 Days.

Since, I’ll be here a bunch of days, I told him I’d give him a present a day (or so) until I leave here in a week.  With that being said, here's a picture of Pat holding the first present I gave him.  (He’s a die-hard LSU Tigers fan.)

Calling It A Night

Sometime after 10 pm Pat called it a night and went to bed but since I’m a night owl, I stayed up for a few more hours watching TV and relaxing on the couch (that’s where I’m sleeping anyway).  Sometime in the early morning, I fell asleep on the couch as my Thursday came to a close.

February 27, 2011 - 3:25 am - (FL) “DAY 236” - Week 34- State 32

After organizing all my things yesterday (almost), I decided when I woke up today that I would help out Pat and clean his place for him. (It doesn’t feel weird because when I lived with Pat, I did this kind of stuff all the time around the house.) After that, I planned on catching up on my writing because I’m a few days behind again.

Sweeping & Swiffing The Floors
Pat’s whole downstairs floor is tile, so the first thing I did was to sweep out the dust.  After that, I pulled out the Swiffer and began to Swif (mop) the entire downstairs area (hallway, kitchen, living room).

The problem... there always is one, as I was Swiffing I must have pulled a lower back muscle because before I knew what happened, I was riving in pain on the floor.  Ouch! 🙁

Laid Up For The Day
Even though I was as mobile as a 90 year old with a walker, I still finished the cleaning the floors and living room.  It was about 2 pm that I was in so much pain, I couldn’t even walk any more. (My walking was baby steps at best.)  I fell like Bill Murray in “What About Bob”, baby steps, baby steps.  LOL 🙂

Stuck On The Couch For The Day

My back was seriously hurting so bad that all I did for the rest of my Friday was lay down on Pat’s couch and rest for the whole day and night.  It really was all I could do as my back was shooting sharp pains into my body as well as tightening up to the point where I couldn’t move.

Other than sitting on the couch, I would make the move 7 steps to the porch so I could use my cell phone (no service in bis place, concrete walls).  Anyway, while I was outside I made a friend (Mr. Lizard) while I was talking to my Mom.

Hanging out with that lizard was a real cool reminder of how far I’ve made it on this trip.  It is unreal that I have been gone for 236 days when I only left with $2007 starting money.  Thank you again to all the people who have helped me achieve all that I have so far. 🙂

Not Much Else Happened
Like I said, I was crippled laying around Pat’s for the rest of the day so my only entertainment was when Pat got home from going out after work.  He got back home around 8 pm a little buzzed wearing the cowboy hat I got when I was in Kansas. LOL 🙂

For the rest of the night he made fun of me for being out of shape as I responded by making fun of him for the same thing. 😉  This went on for the rest of the night until he passed out on the couch.  I feel asleep soon after still in pain from the Swiffer kicking my ass!

Sorry you hurt your back but you are out of shape.
On the other hand, you’ve made it to day 236 and your still out of shape. Florida is a good state to get started getting back into shape.
See you soon !!!!!! JB & KB
