A Full Day Of Poker & Friendship! (ND) “DAY 67” – 9/9/10

September 10, 2010 - 11:12 am- (ND) “DAY 67”

All I did this morning was write and upload pictures from the Terry Redlin Art Museum.  And... when I say morning... I mean from 11 am to 6 pm.  It took that long because most of the pictures I took were with my cell phone.

That means... I have to text them to my email (bad texting area here in ND), upload them to my computer, then file and name each one on my desktop.  Ahh... What a time consuming pain in the ass!  😉

Poker Tournament
Thursday’s poker tournament starts at 6 :30 pm (I know... I played in it last week ;)) and it’s a $5

The Postman (middle)

buy-in with unlimited re-buys and one add-on (NL Texas Hold’em).   For your $5, you get 300 in tourney chips but can add up to $25 more (1,500 chips) before you even get your first hand.

I bought in for an additional $20, so I started with 1,500.  There were 38 people in the tournament and it paid the top 6.   That’s all the info I think you need to know.

My table had the usual people playing at it, The Postman was there, Merle was at the table,

Merle (sitting)

Marty was playing like... well Marty.  Hey... I’m like a regular by now, I now these guys! 😉

I played as I always do when playing Hold’em... real tight and aggressive and made through to

Marty "Oh... OK"

the first break with about my original buy-in.  The second hour, I got a few hands and built up chip stack to about 10,000 in chips.

By the time we took the next break, there was just two tables left and I was in the top 5 in chips.  Nice!  The first hand back from the break, I was in the big blind and was dealt (A, 5) off-suit.

One player limped in along with the little blind, so I checked and saw a flop.  The flop... (A, 7, 5) off-suit.  I checked and the guy in position bet 2,000.  I check raised him ALL IN and he called.

He had (A, 9).  Nice... I’m way ahead.  The turn... 9!!!  He hit his one outer!  I didn’t hit a 5 in the river and he took most of my chips.  I only had 2,000 in chips left and luckily got pocket 9’s (9, 9) before the blinds got back to me.

I bet ALL IN (which was the big blind amount, 2,000) and got 4 callers.  The good thing was the big blind re-raised it ALL IN!  The folded the rest of the table putting us head-up for 9,000 in chips.  This is exactly what I needed!

He turned his hand over and (A, 10) off-suit.  Perfect, a race and I’m ahead right now.  The flop... (8, 6 ,2).  The turn... Jack (J,).  The river.... ACE!  F$&K!

I was knocked out in 11th place as the two combined to make one final table.  You can only play so good and then you need a little luck!  I didn’t have the luck tonight! 🙁

Cash Game
On nights when there is a NL Texas Hold’em tournament, they usually get a 2-10 Texas Hold’em game as well as 2-10 dealers choice game.  Tonight was no different, so I put my name on the list for the 2-10 Hold’em game and was sat in 20 minutes or so.

I bought in for $200 and long story short... I played until they shut down the poker room at 2 am and left up $56.  Not bad, but I was up $200 at about 1:30 am... I should have left then!  But hey, a win, is a win, is a win!  And... I’ll take it!

Dakota Magic Casino & Poker Room

I Love Dakota Magic!

I’m gonna take these few sentences to thank and acknowledge the people here at Dakota Magic.  The floor and poker dealers are awesome and more than friendly to everybody they talk to!

The players are funny, hospitable, and bad at poker! 😉  A great combo!  The room, the food, and amenities are perfect for a guy like me (free soda, comped meals, etc..).  Basically... I love this place as get away from the busyness of the outside world!

I know this for a fact... someday I will come back here to play and stay again!  Thank you for great time Dakota Magic!

Today’s Plan
Now, I’m off to...????  Who knows?  I really have no idea where I’m headed or where I’m sleeping tonight except I know I’m driving South into South Dakota!

Wish me luck!

Thanks for reading!
