A Newspaper Story In The Observer-Reporter! (NH-ME) “NO DAY” – 5/22/11

May 22, 2010 - 2:15 am - (NH-ME) “NO DAY” - Week 47 - State 43

If you are one of the readers who is coming to my site for the first time because of the article you read about me in the Observer-Reporter today... this post is for you!  Thank you for stopping by. 🙂 For everybody else who normally reads my site you’ll get a mini-recap of the year past. 😉

I say that because normally I write about each day of my life as it happens for the past 320 days. (Well, I can get a little behind but not by more than a few days. Hey, it can be tough sometimes to get my life posted while I’m traveling, doing all kinds of things, and trying to survive.)

Anyway, I haven’t read the article yet but I know it will be in today’s paper (Sunday’s Observer-Reporter in Washington, PA).  So, since I don’t know what you’ve been told about my journey, I’ll tell you a little about what I’m doing and some of the highlights. (I won’t be able to tell you them all because they are just to many!) 🙂

48 States, 52 Cities, In 52 Week!
I started my journey last July 5, 2010 when I left New Jersey with what I could fit in my car (a 2002 Nissan Altima) and $2007 of my own money. (People have also donated to me along the way so I have had more money that what I started with.)  Thank you to everybody to has helped me out in anyway! 🙂

Also, as a potential means to make money, I have played poker in many different casinos or poker across our country.  Just so know, my site is not to condone gambling or to make anybody believe this is way to make a living.

And truthfully, although I am up playing poker this year, that is not how I have made it this far.  I have made it 322 days because of the all the great people in this country and the generosity they have shown me. (People from all walks of life.)  It’s so amazing! 🙂

Basically, what I”m what I’m trying to say is that I have done what I had to do to make this impossible journey possible and poker was (to me) the best way to try and earn extra money along the way.  Nothing more, just a potential means to an end.

Things I’ve Done So Far
This list could be endless because when I tried to post my 200 Day recap it took me hours to write and I still didn’t come close to recounting it all.  And that was 122 days ago. 😉 (My 200 Day recap post in on my front page to right under “Top Rooster Days”.  Just click it to read some of things I did in detail.)

Sporting Events
Anyway, here’s some of my highlights.  I have been to over 50 sporting events (probably more like 70) ranging from football, basketball, baseball, hockey, MMA, bull riding, and much more. I’ve seen professional, college, high school, and even children’s sports. (My friends who have had kids.) 😉

It’s hard to say which ones were my favorites because I had a great at them all, but if I had to name just a few, I’d mention being at these: Nebraska football game, Boise State football game, NY Yankee’s game, Denver Bronco’s game, LA Lakers game, Oklahoma City Thunder game because Sam Presti (GM) gave me the ticket, The Super Bowl although I didn’t get in, and so many more.  I really want to name them all right now.

Two Huge Events This Year
Again, I have done so much this year and most of it was incredible to me but I’d have to say that meeting our President Barak Obama and talking a little Yankee baseball with him takes the cake. (This was “DAY 109” and it’s also under “Top Rooster Stories”.)

F.Y.I. - I’m not political at all so I didn’t care perse’ that it was Barak Obama as much as it was the President of The United States!  It’s real cool when you get to meet the most powerful man in the world whether he’s a democrat or republican. 😉

The other event that I’ll mention was getting into Guinness Book of World Records in Las Vegas when I ran in 5K charity race with 12,000+ other people all dressed up as Santa Claus. (I wore a big Rooster outfit underneath my Santa suit so I ran as a big Chicken Claus or some called me... Old Saint Chick!)  LOL 😉

F.Y.I. - You have no idea how crazy it is to see 12,000+ people all dresses up as Santa Claus.  Imagine seeing 50 people right now in a parking lot by your house dressed up as Santa.  Now picture 12,000 of them.  Yeah, 50 would be crazy enough, but 12,000... it was surreal! 🙂

Charity Work
On top of everything else I have tried to do in each city I have lived in, I have also tried to find a local charity organization for me volunteer my time at while I was there.  I haven’t done charity work in every city I have been to but I still helped out in over 20+ states.  Not bad for a homeless guy himself. 😉

It’s 4:05 am & I’m Tired
I could go on and on about this trip and everything I have done, but I’m getting tired from a long day in New Hampshire/Maine (I’ve been in both states today) and really need to get to bed.  It is after 4 am and I’m still working.

Anyway, if you are interested, you can go back to any day you want and read about my adventures as it’s all written down in my website under the tab “Road Stories”.  Or at the bottom of each of page you can click on any month see what I did during that time.

Thank You Observer-Reporter!
Before I fall asleep with my laptop open, I want to thank everybody at the Observer-Reporter in Washington, PA who made the newspaper story possible, especially Denise and Matt.  I truly appreciate the time and effort you put in and just can’t thank you enough!  You’re the best! 🙂

“DAYS 320 & 321”
For all my loyal readers looking for my daily post from the past two days, they will be up shortly.  I’m just really tired and have been busy non-stop the past 48 hours.  So, I’ll do my best to get them up by Monday before I leave for Vermont.

Thanks for reading!
