Another Day In Miami, Another Heat Loss! :) (FL) “DAY 247” – 3/8/11

March 9, 2011 - 12:30 pm - (FL) “DAY 247” - Week 36 - State 32

As I write this (Wednesday afternoon), I am sitting poolside, 14 stories up, overlooking the Miami Skyline and ocean.  For a guy who left NJ 247 days ago with only 2 G’s to his name...this ain’t that bad! 😉 (There’s overcast today, so I can write outside.)

My Real Today Which Is Yesterday 3/8/11

I woke up real early this morning (for me) because G needed a ride somewhere at 8:30 am. (Something to do with something about business.)  That’s all I knew and it was to early to care because I don’t start thinking straight until 11 am earliest. 😉

During the time I waited for him because he needed a ride home, I uploaded and filed my pictures from Monday as I kept an eye on my parked car. (I didn’t want to get a ticket and didn’t want to pay for parking either.

People Are So Cool Everywhere

The section of town we were in was very busy and everybody was looking for parking as well as leaving parking spots.  So, when somebody would leave who was parked near me, I would ask them for their parking slip.  Not one person I asked (although I only asked two) said no.  They were actually more than happy to help out.

G’s Office
When G got finished doing whatever he was doing, I then drove him to his office where he showed me around for a few minutes.  I didn’t stay long as he had work to do and so did I.  (I still had to write my “DAY 246”.)

Writing All Day

From the time I dropped G off at work until he got home, I was writing inside his place.  Well, to be honest, for a hour and half I watched a movie from beginning to end on HBO.

The movie was “Thirteen Conversations About One Thing” and I thought it was a very well written drama.   The movie is hard to explain but it’s about life, the choices we make, and then dealing with the consequences after.  I liked it so... 2 Rooster Claws up!

A Sports Bar For Dinner & The Heat Game
It was around 6:30 pm when Goran and I decided to leave his place to go to a sports bar where local radio host’s Stugotz and Dan LeBatard were gonna be hanging out giving away a bunch of free tickets to the Heat vs Lakers on Thursday night.

The only difference tonight (other than we are going to a different bar) is that G’s girlfriend Lee will be joining us for the evening. (I have never met her before because G’s only been dating her a little while.)

Anyway, this bar was further than the others I have been to, so I drove tonight instead of us talking a cab or walking as we have been.  On the way, I picked up G’s girl and we got to the bar right around tip-off.

Miami Prime
The bar was packed tonight because not only did they have the 790 the Ticket’s Stugotz and Dan LeBatard there, but it was also Fat Tuesday, so they were throwing a toned down Mardi Gras event as well.

Other than the duel themed party they were throwing at the bar, I think this bar does pretty well anyway as they had some hot girls working the tables.  One girl (forgot her name) was so pretty I had to take her picture.  Thanks hot girl! 🙂

Oh yeah, hanging at the bar was a guy who I think would also agree with me that the waitress was real hot.  I don’t know why... I just think this guy would have agreed with me on this one. LOL 😉 (Left: Photo of the guy)

790 AM The Ticket At Miami Prime
Other than the normal bar scenery, like I said earlier, 790 AM was there giving away free Heat tickets and as found out, Marlins baseball seats as well.  They way they did this was, they gave everybody in the bar a raffle ticket and drew different pairs of tickets all night long.

Also, they had a wheel there you could spin to win different useless prizes.  I did spin the wheel, but even if I did win something (which I didn’t), it wouldn’t have mattered because all I really wanted was a pair of Heat tickets against Lakers for Thursday night.

The Heat Game On TV
Even though all those other things were going on at the bar, the main focus of everybody there was the Heat game that was on tonight.  Miami is on a 4 game losing streak and tonight is what feels like a must win to the crowd at the bar. (The Heat are playing Portland and they aren’t that good this year.)

The basketball Gods must be angry at the Miami Heat because they trailed for the entire game (for the most part) and even though they cut the lead to just 2 points late in the game, the Trailblazers hung tough and pulled out an improbable win.

A Funny Frustrated Heat Fan
The lady who was sitting directly behind me was a die-hard Heat fan and by the time the 4th quarter rolled around and the Heat were still losing... she just couldn’t take it anymore.  She started to yell at the TV as she carried on this passion for the rest of the game.

Late in the game, Stugots (from 790 AM) was on the microphone giving away tickets when he made a comment about the game to the bar crowd.  The lady just started screaming, “Sucks, Sucks, Sucks, Sucks, Sucks, Sucks!”  I know it was 6 times because Stugots made mention of it in his rebuttal.  Very funny!

Meeting Dan LeBatard
After the game ended (Heat lost 105-96), I walked over to the bar area where Dan LeBatard was standing and started a conversation.  It wasn’t hard to do as he very receptive to anybody there that wanted to talk to him. (He seems like a very genuine likable guy.)

Anyway, Dan and I spoke about my journey for a little while as I told him stories from my Super Bowl experience, meeting the President, and few other things.  Unless Dan was faking it, he seemed to be interested in what I was doing and what I had already accomplished.

Either way, he was a real cool guy who I was happy to have met and spoke to.  After about ten minutes of shooting the shit, I thanked him for his time, gave him a Rooster card, and got a picture with him and Stugotz.  Nice!

Calling It A Night
It was now close to 10:30 pm and since we weren’t tying one on tonight, we left the bar and headed back to G’s for the rest of the night.  G and his girl had work in the AM, so they went to bed as I stayed up and watched some TV until 2 am-ish.

Tomorrow, I plan on getting a tan, doing my laundry, and finding a casino to play some poker in.  My funds are starting to dwindle and even though I haven’t had to pay for much since I have been in Florida, I still need to stock pile some cash so I’ll be able to finish the last 4 months.

Thanks for reading!
