Exploring Brian Head, Utah! (Utah) “DAY 158” – 12/9/10

December 10, 2010 - 7:22 pm - (Utah) “DAY 158”

These snowy mountains must make me tired because I’ve been going to bed early since I’ve been in Utah.  That’s OK, it means I just wake up earlier. 🙂  And it worked out in favor today because I have meeting with Jon (PR) around 9 am.

Meeting Jon
After speaking briefly with Jon on the phone, we decided to meet up at the Navajo Cafe.   I arrived there around 9:30 am and it was perfect timing as Jon and Melanie pulled at the same time.

For the next 30 minutes or so, the three of us sat around and talked about Brain Head as a town, a ski resort, and a vacation destination.  Then, they told me about their main property which I hadn’t seen yet, the Grande Lodge.

They suggested I check it out, so that was my plans for the afternoon.  F.Y.I. - Jon and Melanie are very nice people and I enjoyed my conversation with them.  🙂

The Grande Lodge
Sometime in the afternoon, I went over to the Grande Lodge to meet up with Tim who was the GM of the whole property.  (Tim was going to show me around and answer any questions I had about the property, the mountain, and well... anything about Brian Head, Utah.)

The Grande Lodge is very grand!  It appears to be totally constructed out of wood and everything seems to be brand new.  This place is nice! 🙂  I looked around briefly before I went to front desk and asked for Tim.  The lady at desk said it would be a minute because Tim was in a meeting.

Christmas Decorations
While I was waiting, I continued to look around the Lodge and soak in the atmosphere.  I have to admit... I love the way Christmas decorations liven up a room.  The bright colors, the festive nature, I don’t know... I just really enjoy it! 🙂

Anyway, I took a a bunch of pictures of the different holiday items they had displayed around the lobby but my favorite was of me and Deer (dressed festively).  The deer was a huge statue with a sign around his neck saying, “Rub my nose for luck”.

Needless to say, I need all the luck I can get, so I rubbed his nose repeatedly while the girl from the front desk took my picture.  Thank you front desk girl!

F.Y.I. - One of the great things about this town is that everybody is so friendly!  It’s a very small town of about 120 residents (I’ve heard anything from 60-180) and it definitely has that small town hospitality.  I’ve felt it with every person I’ve met, genuinely nice people! 🙂

Meeting Tim
When Tim was done with his meeting, he invited me into his office where he and I talked about the Lodge and Utah for a little while.  (Tim has a great personality and real good way about him, he’s the type of guy you would tell your life to after having one drink with him.) 😉

As our meeting was coming to an end, Tim began tell me about the Steakhouse they have on the property (Lenny’s Steakhouse) and how the chiefs just created a new menu.  He then suggested that I have dinner there tonight on him.  Aaaa... OK! 🙂

Our meeting ended around 4:30 pm, so I headed back to my room to get ready for the night ahead of me.  My plan is to hit the hot tub, watch some of the NFL game (Colts vs. Titans) at a pizzeria up the street (only place with the NFL network), and then go to dinner at Lenny’s.  Sounds like a plan to me!

Hot Tub
I was sore from snowboarding and hey... I was at ski resort so it was time to hit the hot tub and soak my aching body for a little while.  The hot tub/pool area was very nice and when I walked in... there was a hot tub bubbling, just waiting for me to get in it.

Despite my sad physique, I took off my shirt and hopped in the tub. 😉  I stayed in the 100 degree water and relaxed until my body was so shriveled up... I looked like Yoda from Star Wars. 🙂

Pizanos Pizzeria
After I went upstairs and changed, I drove to the pizzeria to watch the Colts game.  It was 6:30 pm and the game had just started but I was only person in the pizza place.  Well... me and Reece who worked there.

Reece was super cool dude (just everybody else I have met here) and we talked about Jersey for awhile.  He had to know if the “Jersey Shore” was real or not.  Unfortunately... I told him the truth.  It is just like that when you are 18-24 yrs old at certain Jersey beaches.  It is! 😉

Pizanos closes at 8 pm, so I’ll only get to watch a half of football but that works out perfectly because I have to be at Lenny’s Steakhouse for dinner between 7:30 - 8 pm). Timing is everything! 🙂

As I was watching the game, two older gentlemen stopped in because they too wanted to watch the game.  I chatted with them about football and they shared their garlic knots with me. 😉  Thanks guys! (The Colts won 30-28.)

Lenny’s Steakhouse
Lenny’s is a very nice place and the new menu they have looks awesome but when I’m in a steakhouse... I’m getting a steak, it’s that simple.  (Plus, I am a meat and potatoes guy anyway.)

So when my waitress (Cindy) asked me if I needed any help with the menu, I told her I was ready to order (I just had to pick which steak I wanted).  For my appetizer, I ordered buffalo meatballs and for dinner, I got the filet after Cindy suggested it. 🙂

F.Y.I. - Cindy was a great server, granted I was her only table but still... she made me feel very welcome and was on top of everything.

Talking With Zac
As I was waiting on my food, one of the other servers (Zac) stopped by to talk with me.  (Zac is a pro-snowboarder or was a pro-snowboarder, either way he has competed in events.  Also, he grew up right here on this mountain, he’s a Brian Head local.)

Anyway, I spoke with Zac about the area, the slopes, and the community.  Zac reaffirmed what I already thought about this Brian Head, it’s a very friendly place with that small town feel.  If anybody in town needs help, the whole town rallies to help them.

After about 10 minutes of shooting the shit with Zac, my appetizer arrived, so he politely left so I could eat my dinner.  It was nice meeting you Zac, good luck in life!

The Food
The buffalo meatballs were very good, basically they taste like buffalo wings but instead of chicken you’re eating a meatball.  Not bad! 🙂  After that, my filet mignon arrived and it was great!  It was so tender, it felt like I was eating butter.

After finishing dinner, I was so full I didn’t think I could eat another bite.  But then, Cindy read off the dessert menu and when she said something about a deep fried cheesecake... I couldn’t resist and ordered it. 😉 (It was phenomenal!)

It was 9 pm and they were closing, so I left a tip for Cindy and headed back to my room.  The whole dinner was amazing, not because it was free but because it tasted great!  Thanks Tim!

My Room
When I got back to my room, all I did was write and watch TV.  I’ve been watching a lot of the Hallmark channel because they are running 24 hours of X-mas movies and for some reason... I love holiday movies.  Even the bad ones are good!  😉  That was my day.

Thanks for reading!
