Hanging With Matt & Trying To Catch Up! (PA) “DAY 293” – 4/23/11

April 24, 2011 - 11:35 pm - (PA) “DAY 293” - Week 43 - State 40

I first woke up this morning at 7 am when I heard a knock on my car window. (If you didn’t read yesterday’s post, I sleep in my car in my good friend Matt’s driveway because I got to his house at 5 am and didn’t want to wake him, his wife, or son.)

Anyway, Matt is a great dude and knew I would be arriving to his place late so he left the door open for me.  But, I still didn’t feel right just entering his house at that time, so the car it was.

I tell you all this because after he woke me and I got out of my car, he said “What are you doing Dave?” because he expected I’d be inside.  It was just funny. (This is one of those funny’s where I guess who had to be there.) 😉

Going to Bed In A Bed
After speaking with Matt for a few minutes about whatever, he said to me with his country accent “Ok Dave, it’s time to put you to bed and get my son out of bed.” LOL  It was so funny as he said it so serious.  And I guess he was as he put me to bed and got his son up. 🙂

Re-Waking Around 1 pm
When I got up this time it was for the rest of the day, so I walked downstairs where Matt, his wife (Renee) and son (Liam) were all having lunch. (Matt has a gorgeous home that he and his wife built on his family’s farm.  This place is nice!)

After having a snack with the family, they left for the day as I just sat down on the couch and started writing.  I’m a few days behind (again) and need to catch up so I it doesn’t get overwhelming.

Getting Locked Out
While Matt and his family were out doing their thing, I tried to get as much stuff done to organize my life as possible.  The problem... as soon Matt left, I locked myself out of his house even though he left me a key.   Even worse was I left my phone, camera, and everything inside.

Basically, what happened was I walked outside to grab some cloths out of my car and when I went back to the door I left, it had locked behind me.  Ahhh!

Matt’s Parents House
Luckily for me, Matt’s parents house is just a few hundred yards away on the same property (kinda).  I have met Matt’s parents (The Miller’s) many time in my life, so it wasn’t awkward going down to their home.

Anyway, since I didn’t have my phone or camera (locked in Matt’s place), I don’t have any pictures of this.  But, I hung out with Matt’s parents for a hour or more as we caught up on our lives.  Then, after talking with them for awhile, they told me a code so I could get back in their son’s house.

F.Y.I. - I have always really liked Matt’s parents as I know them since my freshman year at WVU.  To me, they are the All-American country family and I mean that in a good way.  They are kind, funny, hard working, gracious, and all-in-all... just great people to be around.

Not to mention, their farm is the first farm I ever saw in my life.  Also, it’s the first place I ever saw a real cow in person,  shot a gun at a ground hog, and a bunch of other country stuff that I got to experience when Matt and I were friends our freshman year in college.  Matt and I have remained close friends ever since.

Getting Back Into Matt’s Place
I didn’t mind it all because I do really enjoy talking with Matt’s Mom and Dad, but it was already 3 pm and I hadn’t written anything yet.  Ahhh!  I have so much to do and I’d love to just do nothing right now except enjoy the view from Matt porch.  But, I have work to do so I grabbed my laptop and got to writing.

Writing All Day & Laundry
Besides writing, I took this time to get my laundry done as well.  Ahhh... clean cloths are nice.  So, while I washed and organized my cloths, I kept on writing until Matt got home around 7 pm.

F.Y.I. - I did bring a lot of cloths with me on this trip, so I’m never really out of underwear/socks/t-shirts, but I only have a few sweatshirts and pairs of jeans, so they needed to be cleaned.  I did wash everything though.

Matt Gets Home
Once Matt and his family got all settled in, the four of us just hung out in the living room talking while watching TV for the rest of the night.  During this time, I also kept on writing as I was trying to get 2 posts up before the day ended. (I can multi-task.) 😉

While the adults were talking, Matt’s son Liam who is 17 months ago, kept wanting to touch my laptop and see what I doing, but Mom kept telling him no. 😉  It was funny as it minded me of me when I was kid.  Always wanting to be in the middle of things.  Yo go Liam! 🙂

Matt & The Fam Go To Bed
Sometime around 10-11 pm Matt went to bed for the night.  Well, after he made me a sandwich because I hadn’t eaten all day (he insisted).  Thanks Matt! (Oh yeah, his wife and son already went to sleep earlier.)

So, since I was staying in for the night, I got back to writing and didn’t crash myself until sometime around 4 am.  I did get two posts up while I watched “A Few Good Men”.  You Want The Truth?  You Can’t Handle The Truth! LOL

Anyway, that was my day.  Tomorrow, I’m spending Easter with Matt and his whole family before I take off for Maryland which will be my 41st state. (If I count PA which is where I am now, although I’m coming back here in week for a week which will be my official PA week.)  That’s it.

Thanks for reading!
