I Lived As A Homeless Man Does Last Night… I slept nowhere! (WI-MN) “DAY 52” – 8/25/10

August 25,2010 - 8:36 pm - (WI- MN) “DAY 52”

Sign In their kitchen 🙂

I got up this morning knowing I was leaving for Minnesota.  I have already stayed in Wisconsin a day longer than I anticipated but things happen....

Anyway, it was 10 am when I got in my car and headed off.  The problem was... 10 miles down the road... I remembered I forgot something.  That’s a funny sentence! 🙂

Thank you!

I forgot my headset to my cell phone ($30), so I headed back to Riccio’s parents house.  When I got there, I also remembered that I had bought a watermelon from Walmart the night before.  Nice... breakfast!

As I started to cut it up for myself, Diane (Riccio’s Mom) stepped in as only a Mother could and cut up the whole watermelon and out it in a ziplock bag for me!  So cool! I love watermelon and it was the perfect snack during my 4 hour drive!  Thank you so much for everything!

I left there for the second time at 11 am.  My GPS said it should take 4 hours to get to a casino (Running Aces), just over the border of Minnesota and north.  That’s where I’m headed since I have nowhere to go...

During my drive through Wisconsin I noticed that the only thing I noticed was silos, cows, horses, and silos, cows, and horses.  At least it was consistent. 🙂  It was a smooth rode with no traffic and then.... MY GPS WENT OUT!

Right in the middle of nowhere (while I was driving), the GPS went black.  I didn’t do anything, I didn’t touch anything, it just went out!  F%$K!

Luckily, I remembered that I was to take 94 W (which was my next turn off), but from there I would be completely lost!  I have grown very dependent on this device evidently.

I was frustrated and still had over 2 hours left so I pulled into a rest area to take a break and breathe

rest stop plaque

for a second.  Seriously... my GPS breaking in the middle of bum-f$ck Wisconsin really blows! 🙁

After I looked around and went to the bathroom, I got back in car and tried the GPS one last time... I plugged it in and... it worked!  Woo Hoo!  I’m back baby... I’m Back!

So, I hit the road and made it to my destination with no problems.  I arrived at Running Aces Harness Park around 3 pm and immediately got sat into a 2-60 spread limit Texas Hold’em game.

Minnesota law says... casinos can not play no limit poker games (cash).   So this was there solution.  You can bet anywhere from $2 to $60 on any card.  A modified no-limit game.

F.Y.I - At this point, I’m thinking about playing poker all night long, so I won’t get a room anywhere, and then I’ll sleep on the beach (lake beach) all day tomorrow.  That’s the plan! 🙂

Anyway, as always... the first thing I did was get a players card.  This is place is very player friendly, I can already tell.  Every new member got a $10 match play ticket.  This means if bet $10 on a table game (blackjack, roulette, etc..) you are actually betting $20.

I was suckered... so I went to the blackjack table and put down a $10 bet along with my $10 matchplay ticket.  The first hand I got 17.  The dealer also got 17, so I pushed.  I had to play another hand because my matchplay was still ok to use.

The next hand... I got blackjack!  Nice!  With the extra $10, I got back a $30 profit as I left the table after that hand.  Discipline! 🙂  Oh yeah, when you get a suited blackjack (as I did), you get a ticket worth at least $1 and as much $2,500.

I t’s a promotion they are running on Saturday.  I just show uo and hand them the ticket and I get back at least $1.  I’ll take it!  A free chance at money... I’m in! 🙂

I was immediately sat in the 2-60 spread game and bought in for $120. (buy-in is anywhere from $50-$200).  I played my first hand which was (A, 7) suited.  The flop... (9, 7, 3) - one heart.  I checked and guy in position bet $12.  I called.

The turn... Q of spades, no help.  he bet out $26 and I called.  I thought he was bluffing.  the river was a blank and he bet $40.  I folded and he showed a 9.  I lost the BJ winning already. 🙁

I then played bad and got outplayed until I had $32 left.  I then made my run.  I played better poker and the big pots I won... I bluffed at! 🙂  Nobody back home would believe I would stab $50 into the river with a busted flush... but I did and won a huge pot!  Nice!

About 2 hours into playing a lady working for the casino walked around and handed free- seafood buffet passes to everybody who was playing in the poker room.  Nice!  Free dinner tomorrow!  I knew this casino was player friendly. 🙂

I kept playing for a while longer as I talked with a few guys at the table.  I tried to see if anybody would bite on letting me stay with them but nobody even nibbled!  Damn!

I was now playing for about 4 hours and was up $100 so I took a break and looked around for food.  What I found... A $2 pulled pork sandwich (today’s special, normally $5.50).  Perfect!  I ordered it and it was good. 🙂

I went back to the table and wasn’t in the mood to grind it out, so I cashed out up $102.

I had nowhere to go, so I got into my car and used my working GPS (nice) to find a Starbucks (3 miles away).  I know they have free internet, so I can look for rooms or a hostel and if nothing else... write a portion of tomorrow post (what I’m doing now) since I have no home in Minnesota.

Thanks Pal for taking the pic!

I checked out the hostel scene and found one about 25 miles away in Minneapolis for $28 a night.  Huh??? Is it worth it???  I am deciding as I write (it’s 9:25 pm)....  If I want it, I have to leave right now because check in is before 10:30 pm.  After that... you have to wait til tomorrow.

I don’t know... but I’ll tell ya in the morning when I finish this post!  Wish me luck! 🙂

August 26, 2010 - 7:21 am - (MN) “DAY 52” (Continued)
Well... I’m still up from the night before and back at Starbucks.  I am so tired right now, I don’t even want to write right now but I have no where to go and it is cold and foggy out.

I mean cold!  Like 50 degrees... Maybe even colder.  Burrrr.... (I just checked the weather, it’s 49 out.) 🙁

Anyway, after I left Starbucks last night, I went back to the casino where I played all night (until now, 7 am).   I played at multiple tables for over 10 hours (that’s after Starbucks, I was there for 4 hours before too).

I played in a 2-60 spread game, left that game and played in another, and around 5 am I played 2-4 limit until I left.   Overall... I wound up plus $48 after it was all said and done.

August 26, 2010 - 10:26 am - (MN) “DAY 52” (Cont’d)
I know I normally write the details of my poker evening, complete with a recap of big hands, the interesting people I met, and whatever else happened.  Well... that’s not gonna happen today.

I just woke up from sleeping in my car in the Starbucks parking lot.  I’m still real tired and can’t remember all the details of the evening.

What I do remember is... at about midnight, I had lost $150 back to the casino and at that point, I was down on the night.  I called Jeremy (Cali) and he gave me the boost and advice I needed.  We spoke on the phone for over a hour in my living room... the parking lot! lol

I went back into the poker room and won back the money I lost, Thanks for the confidence Jer.

Other than that, this casino (Running Aces) is the best one I have been too in regards to promotions and taking care of the players.  There were so many different signs telling you what was going on... I could barely take all of them in.  Luckily, I took pictures.

They have Aces cracked, foods specials, ladies night/racing hat night, and the best one I think is... at the end of the week if you played over 10 hours of poker in the poker room (keep track through your players card), you get to play in a free tournament this Sunday where the top 9 win $1,100 seat in a tournament they hold in October.

F.Y.I.- If I win, I’ll sell the ticket for $900 or so. 🙂 (That’s the going rate in the casino right now, people said.)

That’s it!  I have a lot to do today.  I’m getting a room at a hostel for $28, going to the Minnesota State Fair (it’s huge- 12 days long and 1,000’s of people), doing charity work at 4:15 pm, and getting back to the casino for my seafood buffet (late dinner).

I have a full one ahead of me!

Thanks for reading and if it’s not written to well... my bad!  I’m homeless right now! 🙂
