Traveling To South Carolina & A Fantasy Baseball Draft! (GA-SC) “DAY 259” – 3/20/11

March 21, 2011 - 9:20 am - (GA-SC) “DAY 259” - Week 37 - State 34

Since I went to bed real late last night (even for me), I didn’t get a lot of sleep as I had to be up at 11 am to leave the room.  I know I can get a late checkout and did, but I had to wake up to do that.  Thus... I was up at 11 am.

As I was going in and out of my room packing my car, Rob (guy I met yesterday) walked over to me with his dog Bo so he could say good bye and wish me well on my travels.

Taking With Rob & His Wife
While I was talking with Rob, his wife came outside as well, so the three of us stood there and had a conversation about religion and politics.  A few minutes had passed by and I had to be out of my room by now, so I told them I had to go.

But, I guess they still wanted to talk with me because they told me to stop by their room after I got everything out of mine. (That was fine with me, I liked talking with Rob yesterday and his wife seems really nice as well.)

Rob’s Room
After I finished packing and handing in my key, I stopped by their room to say good bye to them.  Then, after talking with the Vincent’s for a few more minutes, Rob handed me some money ($25).  Thank you both so much! 🙂  I don’t even know how to explain it except to say... people in our country kick ass!

Traveling To South Carolina
My plan now is to drive into South Carolina which will be my 34th state!  I can’t believe I have made it this far. 🙂  The only problem... I’m sure where I’m going to exactly yet.  Myrtle Beach is still the expected destination but where in Myrtle Beach... is still up in the air.

My Fantasy Baseball Draft Is Today
Besides driving to South Carolina, today I also have a fantasy baseball draft in the Arizona League I have been in for 11 years now.  But since I’m going broke and haven’t a bunch of time to study, I have a partner who is helping me this year (Pat from FL). (Left: That picture is so not Pat it's hysterical!) LOL

I originally thought I would drive the whole way to Myrtle Beach while doing the draft with Pat over the phone through the computer.  That may be confusing so I’ll explain.  The AZ draft is live in AZ but 4 teams are drafting on-line who are out if state (I’m one of them).  So, Pat is drafting on the computer while he talks with me on the phone.

Pulling Over & Getting A Room
As the draft was getting underway, Pat and I realized it would be really difficult for me to follow after the first couple of rounds (14 teams, 30 rounds, that’s a lot of picks to try and remember while driving).  So, after our first pick (11th overall, we took David Wright) I pulled over somewhere in South Carolina and got a room for the day.

Knights Inn
The main reason I pulled over is because I really enjoy the draft and to do it while driving wasn’t gonna be much fun, if any at all.  So, when I saw the Knight’s Inn off the highway for $28 a night, I got off the road and paid for the room. (Thanks again Rob, you’re essentially paying for this room tonight!) 🙂

My Fantasy Baseball Draft
As soon as I got into my hotel room, I immediately pulled my laptop out to see what was going on in our on-line draft.  Like I said, there are 14 teams in this league and with 30 picks per team... this takes a long time!

So, for the next 6 hours (maybe even a little longer), I stayed on the phone with Pat in Florida while we drafted a fantasy baseball team on the computer with people in Arizona and beyond (3 other people are also in other states).

I could go into the details of my team and whatnot, but I won’t.  I’ll just say that I had a great time today drafting with Pat and I think we have a good team if a few of our sleeper picks pan out (Justin Morneau, Brian Matusz, Jason Bay, & Will Venable to name a few).

The Rest Of My Day
The draft ended around 7-8 pm and by the time I got done talking (on the phone) with a bunch of people who were in the league about the draft, it was after 10 pm.  Tired from a long day of staying at a computer screen for hours, I laid down to rest eyes around around midnight.

I didn’t think I was gonna go to sleep because I was waiting on Jeremy’s (CA) standard late night call to check in on me.  But, I must have passed out because I woke up this morning (Monday) to a missed call and text from him.  Tomorrow is another day. 😉

Thanks for reading!
