When It Rains, It Pours! But… It’s All Good! (NY) “DAY 346” – 6/15/11

June 17, 2011 - 9:04 am - (NY) “DAY 346” - Week 50 - State 48

If you read my last post you’d know I went to sleep last night feeling sick.  Well... it wasn’t just a feeling because this morning when I got up at 6:45 am so I could move my car (I was parked in a spot that you had to leave at 7 am), I threw up during the whole walk.  Damn street meat!

F.Y.I. - Parking in NYC is a pain in the ass.  There aren’t many free spots to have and to even find where they are is tough. (Meaning, what streets even have free parking.)  So, even though I was feeling like death, I still had to look for a spot.

Finding A Parking Spot
So, I got into my car after about 15 minutes of puking and drove a few blocks over to where I saw a sign I could park for the day and possibly tomorrow if I get the right side of the street. (One side was Tuesday and Friday  and the other side was Monday and Thursday.)

Luckily for me, a miracle happened because I only waited about 30 minutes for somebody to come outside and move out of there spot so I could take it. (I was doubled parked on the street waiting with about 10 other cars at different points in the street. If the spot that opened up wasn’t closest to you, you were screwed. I was lucky!)

Getting Some Medicine
Ahhhh!  This is the first time I have been sick all year long!  Man, when it rains... it pours!  So, I went to nearest corner store which was next door to Jonah’s place and bought some Nyquil.

You know I must have felt ill because the small bottle was $9 and I just paid it even though that’s almost 1/5 my net worth. (There’s no price on your on health.  Also, there’s a small glimpse of city prices.) 🙁

Sleeping All Day Long
When I got back upstairs it was around 8 am and Jonah was getting ready to leave for work for the day. (He works long days and this week he is so busy I will barely see him.)  So, I drank some Nyquil and hoped that when I got up later in the day, I would feel better.  I can’t be sick right now. ;(

Getting Up & Writing
It was around 5-6 pm when I woke up for good for the day. (I kept waking up and immediately drinking Nyquil and then going back to sleep.)  I guess my plan worked or it was a 24 hour thing because I didn’t feel that sick when I when got back up.  Whew!  I felt real bad this morning. 🙂

So, for however long it took, I sat in Jonah’s place and wrote my “DAY 345”.  It’s crazy how this city is because when you look out the window, there is just so much going on outside and it’s loud out at almost any time of the day or night.  That’s NYC!  And I love the business! 🙂

Walking Around NYC
Since I was feeling better, I decided to get out and walk around NYC for a little while.  Hey, NYC is interesting even if you have no money and nowhere specific to go.  Luckily for me that’s the case because that’s how roll right now. 😉

Getting Some Food
One of the cool things about NYC is that you are never far from anything.  What I mean by that is, almost every square block has everything a community would need so you’re never far from anything you could want.  That’s NYC! 🙂

So, as I was walking I decided to get my first meal of the day from a fruit stand that was on some corner.  Bananas were 4 for a $1 so I bought 2 for .50 cents and ate them as I walked. (I like bananas and needed the potassium.)

Jeremy Calls Me
As I was walking around the city with no real direction (I was basically just walking around checking out everything), Jeremy called me to see how I was doing.  Then, as we were talking about life and whatever, I said to him that NYC is awesome (as we both know from out childhood) but then added that with not much money it’s just OK.

Right after I said that though... I stumbled upon a bar (Turtle Bay) with a sign out front that said “$1 Beer Wednesday”.  Cha-Ching!  That’s right in my price range! 😉  So, Jeremy and I laughed as I got off the phone with him and then went inside to check out the Turtle.

Turtle Bay
I gotta be honest, this was the perfect bar for me find tonight.  The beers were cheap, the wings were cheap, and there were good looking girls everywhere.  Nice! 🙂  The only problem was that I was just sick all day long and didn’t want to feel like that again, so I couldn’t rage like I wanted to.

That being said, I still hung out there for a hour or two and had a couple of beers. (I took it real slow to see if my stomach could handle it and since I had a banana base now, I thought I should be fine and was.) 😉  I’m just joking, banana’s could have been the death of me but it all worked out.

Walking Back To Jonah’s
It was close to midnight and even though the Mighty Turtle was still in full swing, I hit the road and started walking back to Jonah’s. (I met a few cool people while I was there but since I didn’t want to get drunk and possibly sick again, I left relatively early considering this NYC. (Bars can stay open to 5 am and beyond if you know where to go.)

Jonah Gets Home
About 5 minutes after I had gotten to Jonah’s place (he left me spare keys), Jonah walked in from work.  I gotta say he is hard worker and I’m sure his efforts will pay off in the long run.  You go Jonah!  Get what you’re going after! 🙂

So, since he had work again in the morning and I still was in need of more rest to make sure I was 100% healthy, we both called it a night after a few minutes of B.S.-ing about our days.   Thanks again Jonah!

I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful it is to have a place to lay my head!  If I wasn’t feeling well and I was living in my car... I couldn’t even begin to explain how miserable I would be right now.  It would be absolutely awful!  But that’s not the case and I’m grateful for it.  America is awesome and by America... I mean Jonah today! 🙂

Thanks for reading!
